Lance Cpl. Patrick W. Schimmel

Lance Cpl. Patrick W. Schimmel, 21, of Winfield, Mo., died Aug. 9, 2009 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Winfield, a small Lincoln County community, is mourning the loss. Schimmel graduated from high school just three years ago. The 21 year old Winfield Missouri native joined the Marines soon after graduating. Schimmel's teachers remembered his as a good student and youngster who wanted to serve his country. On Tuesday, flags around the town flew at half staff as a tribute to the fallen Marine. Signs also went up in the center of town as an added tribute.

FORGOTTEN WARRIOR
He lives alone In the hills and the trees
