Lance Cpl. Dennis J. Burrow

Lance Cpl. Dennis J. Burrow, 23, of Naples, Fla., died Aug. 7, 2009 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

 

Burrow deployed in Iraq from November 2007 to May 2008, and in Afghansitan since last May. His awards include the Iraqi Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, according to the Marine Corps.

FORGOTTEN WARRIOR
He lives alone In the hills and the trees
He bares his soul To the cool mountain breeze
He talks to the Spirit He listens to the Wind
They shield him from memories Buried deep within
The world has forgotten The sacrifice he made
The scars he bears remind him Of the high price he paid
Freedom is not given But with blood it has been bought
